In the era of globalization, the traditional“homogeneous nation”identity of South Koreans is increasingly challenged. As external environments evolve, the emphasis on ethnic factors in the South Korean mindset has diminished, while political factors have gained prominence. This shift is further influenced by public opinion, continuously reshaping South Koreans’self-perception and their understanding of the world. The majority of South Koreans no longer use“bloodline”as the sole criterion to distinguish between South Koreans and non-Koreans.Instead,under the combined influence of political, social, and cultural factors,a stratified national identity has emerged, ranging from“non-Korean”to“Korean”to“fully Korean.”Additionally, influenced by the domestic political and media landscapes,Korean identity exhibits polarization aligned with individual political stances. This polarization shows cyclical trends of intensification or mitigation, influenced by continuous changes in both the external international environment and internal political dynamics.
