Overseas translators of Chinese classics are an important force in the cultural exchanges between China and the West,and they have made significant contributions to the dissemination of Chinese traditional culture out of their love for Chinese culture and rigorous academic spirit.Arthur Waley,a distinguished Sinologist and translator of Britain in the 20th century Britain,was a leading figure in translating Chinese philosophical classics during the first half of the century.He dedicated his life to promoting and introducing Chinese culture and his translation of the Analects of Confucius in 1938 stands as a representative example of his work in translating Chinese philosophical classics,which is characterized by attaching importance to the historical and cultural background,the presentation of the real image of Confucius in the history of China,and the exploration of the meaning of the key terms of Confucianism,has significant implications for the dissemination of Chinese culture.This paper is aimed to provide examples and references for the exchanges and mutual learning among civilization by means of the systematic analysis of its translation strategy and interpretation.
