Just as the integrated circuit problem is a key bottleneck restricting the development of China's science and engineering fields,country and region studies are also core problems that need to be resolved in the field of humanities and social sciences in China.The fundamental mission of country and region studies is to conduct in-depth research on the precise situation of various regions in the world.Especially in the context of the joint construction of the Belt and Road initiative,in-depth research on countries along its route is particularly important,which is of great significance to strengthening China's relations and cooperation with these countries.In addition,the development of country and region studies should also focus on interdisciplinary cooperation,cultivate generalists and specialists who can deeply understand specific countries or regions,and meet the urgent needs of the country and society for such in-depth understanding.Despite the rapid advancement of country and region studies in many universities and institutions,there remains a lack of deep comprehension of its broader implications and interdisciplinary nature,often leading to unclear research directions and educational goals.Therefore,it is essential to establish clear disciplinary directions and objectives to ensure the healthy development of country and region studies that truly serve the nation's needs.The core task and characteristics of China's country and region studies are to serve China and have the ability to expand to serve people all over the world.In-depth country and region studies will help to effectively respond to and resolve various rifts that have emerged in the process of globalization and promote China's international cooperation.In addition,China's country and region studies should transcend the Western-centric discourse system and establish an independent knowledge system that conforms to China's national conditions.
