摘要
Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio是第一个以完整译本形式出版的《聊斋志异》英译本,在英语世界流传甚广,经久不衰,对后世《聊斋志异》的英语重译和其他语种外译产生了重要影响。翟理斯在翻译过程中对《聊斋志异》原文的文化话语进行了重构,本文从文本内容的选择性采用、标示性建构和参与者再定位三方面,分析了翟译本的文化话语重构策略,并进一步探索译者翻译策略背后的原因,寻求译本被英语世界成功接受的有效翻译模式,对当代的中国文学外译和中华文化传播提供有益的启发和借鉴。
Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio is the first English translation of Liaozhai Zhiyi published in the form of a complete translation version.It is popular and enduring in the English-speaking world,and has exerted an important influence on the English re-translation and other foreign language translation of Liaozhai in later generations.In the process of translation,Giles reconstructed the cultural discourse in the original text of Liaozhai.This paper will adopt selective appropriation of textual material,framing by labelling and repositioning of participants,to analyze the cultural discourse reconstruction strategies of Giles’translation,and further explore the reasons behind these strategies.This paper aims to provide useful inspiration and reference for the contemporary translation of Chinese literature and the dissemination of Chinese culture.
