Comparative Study on the Transliteration of Specific Terms in Humanities across the Taiwan Strait

根据外语科技名词译写通则,专名用音译,通名用意译。祖国内地和台湾地区由于多年来采取不同的科技术语定名译名的原则和方法,以致两岸之间纯中文语境的学术表述与交流存在一定的障碍,其中一个明显的表现即两岸人文学科专名译写的差异。文章通过两岸地名、民族学、世界历史等人文学科专名译写异同实例的分析认为,制定和实施统一规范的外语专名中文译写规则,是解决两岸人文学科专名译写差异问题的基本方法。

Due to the different principles and methods of naming and translating scientific and technological terms adopted by mainland and Taiwan of China over the years,there are certain barriers to academic expressions and exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait in a purely Chinese context.One of the obvious manifestations is the difference in the translation of humanities proper names between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.The article analyzes the similarities and differences in the transliteration of specific terms between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait in disciplines of Humanities including toponymy,ethnology,and world history,and concludes that the formulation and implementation of uniform and standardized rules for the translation of foreign language proper names into Chinese is the basic solution to the problem of differences in the translation of humanities proper names across the Taiwan Strait.
