The growing recognition of emotions in shaping national image has highlighted a significant gap in understanding which specific emotions are essential for effective national image communication. This paper seeks to address this gap by drawing on Hume's theory of moral sentiments, proposing that"reflective passion,"consisting of reflective understanding and reflective revision, provides a suitable emotional orientation for national image communication.Reflective understanding involves deep comprehension and insight into emotions, while reflective revision focuses on the immediate adjustment and adaptation that arise from this understanding. The interaction between these elements makes reflective passion a dynamic and adaptable framework for national image communication. In the digital age, where media continuously reshapes space and time, the need for reflective passion—infused with inclusivity and self-criticism—becomes increasingly critical, placing greater demands on both reflective understanding and revision.
