Regenerative medicine is an emerging branch of medical science which aimed to repairing tissue or organ function in patients with severe trauma or chronic diseases.Stem cells can self-renew and differentiate to provide a new therapeutic pathway for repairing and replacing damaged tissues and organs.The differentiation potential of stem cells varies depending on the source and their applications in regenerative medicine change accordingly.This paper systematically introduces the definition classification and characteristics of stem cells,and recent advances in their current and potential applications.
