Cardiac troponin (cTn) is a specific biomarker present within myocardial cells. When the myocardium undergoes reversible or irreversible damage, cTn is released into circulation. While elevated levels of cTn are commonly associated with cardiac diseases, they can also be observed in patients with non-cardiac conditions. To accurately comprehend the significance of cTn elevation, our review explores the mechanisms and clinical implications of elevated cTn in non-cardiac diseases, building upon the introduction of the origin, release mechanisms, and clearance pathways.
