The investment efficiency of transportation infrastructure is increasingly influenced by factors such as economic development level and population movement scale. However, many aspects of this influence remain to be studied, including the strength and scope of the spatial effect,as well as the regularity of the space-time process.Taking 15 cities in the backward U-shaped bend metropolitan area of the Yellow River basin as the research units, this paper used the super-efficiency SBM model to estimate the efficiency of infrastructure investment in this area from 2011 to 2021,employed the Spatial Durbin Model to reveal the spatial spillover effect and the decay boundary, and discussed the intermediate mechanism leading to nonlinear influence relationships. The research found a U-shaped change for the investment efficiency of transportation infrastructure in the metropolitan area of the Yellow River basin. With the development of the economy, the investment efficiency of local transportation infrastructure will also increase.Meanwhile, economic development level has a negative spatial spillover effect on investment efficiency which will reduce the efficiency of transportation infrastructure investment in adjacent areas.
