The active ingredients of medicinal plants and their contents are the key indicators for evaluating the quality of medicinal materials and the material basis for clinical efficacy.Coptis chinensis has high medicinal value, which is one of the important genuine medicinal materials.Wild C.chinensis resources are on the verge of exhaustion due to increasing market demand and over-harvesting,therefore,artificial cultivation has become an important way to ensure market demand. In order to provide a reference for C.chinensis resource protection and efficient development and utilization, the research literature related to the main active ingredients of C.chinensis published in recent years was systematically reviewed, the types and content characteristics of the main active ingredients of C.chinensis were integrated and analyzed, the influences of biological and abiotic factors on the content of the effective active ingredients were analyzed, the existing problems and bottlenecks of related research were discussed, and the future research direction of C.chinensis was prospected as well.
