The convergence of rural hollowing,an aging population, and nuclear family structures has led to a critical situation in rural elderly care.Research conducted in rural Gannan reveals that while family-based care remains the primary mode of elderly care in rural areas,it falls short in meeting the diverse needs of the elderly.Financial constraints, outdated attitudes, and physical ailments present a triple challenge to the health and active aging of the rural elderly in Gannan.By examining the elderly's perspectives on clothing, food, labor, illness, and healthcare, this study uncovers the metaphorical language surrounding their bodies and argues that elderly care policies should be more attuned to the cultural and physical care needs of the elderly.Gannan's rural areas are rich in local elderly care resources, and it is evident that a key area for policy improvement is the localized care of left-behind elderly.Rural elderly care is intrinsically linked to the village and their children, necessitating the integration of local culture and resources to bolster the establishment of a localized,community-based elderly care system. This approach empowers the elderly to express their needs, rather than being passively shaped by the modern elderly care system.
