A review of researches on the impact of corporate ESG ratings

以环境、社会和公司治理(ESG)评级为代表的环境评级作为一种管理工具,近年来在国内受到越来越多关注和认可。本文探究环境评级对于组织机构的影响力,即提升环境绩效的实际作用。通过文献调查和案例分析,从收入激励、可衡量性、执行力和溢出效应四个方面论证了环境评级对组织机构的环境绩效的正面影响。同时指出,尽管环境评级存在规模偏好、指标模糊、弱一致性等影响因素,但其对环境绩效的贡献依然可观。结论认为环境评级在提升企业环境治理水平、促进市场竞争、参与全球化等方面可以发挥独特作用,并对环境评级在我国的本土化发展进行了展望。建议权威机构建立标准化和本土化的企业环境评级体系,促进环境评级与环境监管的有机结合,以及企业注重发挥评级作用推进可持续发展。

Environmental ratings,represented by environmental,social and governance(ESG)ratings,have received more and more recognition and attention in recent years in China as a management tool.This essay explores the practical role and impact of environmental rating on improving an institution’s environmental performance.The positive impacts of environmental rating on the environmental performance of public and private institutions are demonstrated from four aspects:revenue incentives,measurability,execution,and spillover effects.At the same time,it is believed that environmental ratings contribution to environmental performance is still substantial,affected by factors such as scale preference,blurred indicators,and weak consistency.Environmental rating could play a unique role in improving the corporate environmental governance and internationalization,promoting social supervision and market competition.It is suggested that authoritative institutions should establish a standardized and localized corporate environmental rating system,promote the organic combination of environmental rating and environmental supervision,and large companies pay attention to the role of rating to promote sustainable development.
