In the large and medium sized tombs of the Northern Dynasties, pottery figurine was a common kind of ancillary burial funerary object. The figurines created a special narrative of space and time in the tomb, rather than reflected the owner's previous life. They were usually placed in the center point between the coffin and the door, symmetrically arranged on the left and right sides of the tombstone. Taking the tombstone as its center, the whole layout has recreated the grand scene of the burial of the deceased. This visual scene presented the temporality of secular life, between birth and death, and started a new journey for the deceased, from death to immortality.
