Orthodox Manual of External Diseases(Wai Ke Zheng Zong)is a notable work by Chen Shigong,a prestigious doctor in the Ming dynasty,summarizing extensive clinical practice in surgery based on his lifelong medical experience.The book emphasizes the integration of internal and external treatments,focusing on qi and blood,promoting the nourishment of the spleen and stomach,and opposing the excessive use of cold drugs in surgical diseases,which is a view widely accepted in later generations.For the treatment of carbuncle,a common suppurative diseases in surgery,based on syndrome differentiation,Chen Shigong employed methods such as promoting qi and invigorating blood,along with tonifying qi and blood.This article summarized Chen Shigong′s medication principles and explored the academic thought behind the treatment of carbuncle in the Orthodox Manual of External Diseases based on qi and blood theory in traditional Chinese medicine.
