A Study on Two Manuscripts of Uighur Texts Related to the "Five Penances" Preserved in Peking University Library

北京大学图书馆藏敦煌吐鲁番出土回文文献中编号“北大附T2”和“北大附T3”极为特殊,形质为贝叶型,字体为楷书体,并在回鹘文中夹写有引自《金光明经》的汉字。T2的页眉为“顺次,第一”,T3的页眉为“附加,第二十一”。与《金光明经》回鹘语译本的对照表明,其并非是胜光译本的简单抄本,而是基于《金光明经》进行再创作的行愿类文献,其特征与国家图书馆藏GT15-64和GT15-25具有一定的关联性。T3页眉中的“第二十一”表明该文献具有一定规模。该文献对回鹘佛教史研究具有重要意义。

Among the Old Uighur manuscripts unearthed from Dunhuang and Turfan that are held in Peking University Library,two manuscripts respectively numbered BD-Fu T2 and BD-Fu T3 are very unique.Both of these manuscripts are written in the form of a wide pattra leaf and written in regular Uighur script with several Chinese characters quoting the Suvarnaprabha-sasutra in between the lines.The header of BD-F T2 contains the words"the first in order",while that of BD-Fu T3 is listed as being"the twenty-first addition".A comparison with the Uighur version of the Suvarnaprabhasasutra shows that the text of the documents is not a simple copy of the standard Uighur version translated by Sheng Guang(Singqu Sali),but rather a text about the"five penances"recreated from the contents of the Suvarnaprabhasasutra.In addition,research has found that there is a definite relationship between the two fragments and manuscripts GT15-64 and GT15-25 kept in the National Library of China.The"twenty-first"in the header of BD-Fu T3 indicates that this type of document belongs to a series of texts,and therefore is of important value for studying the history of Uighur Buddhism.
