政治话语中“战争”隐喻叙事的内涵与翻译策略——以《习近平谈治国理政》(第四卷)为例

Essence of and Translation Strategy for War-related Metaphors in Political Discourse With Chinese Characteristics—A Case Study of Xi Jinping:The Governance of ChinaⅣ

隐喻是中国政治话语中普遍使用的修辞手法,其中广泛出现的战争隐喻突出体现了政治话语的中国特色。与传统文学作品中的隐喻不同,政治话语中的战争隐喻本质内涵是概念工具,在以《习近平谈治国理政》(第四卷)为代表的中国政治话语中发挥了强调敌我、攻守、得失、战略的概念功能。在保留隐喻概念功能的宏观翻译策略影响下,战争隐喻的翻译微观策略主要有保留战争隐喻、改变隐喻源域和删除战争隐喻三种。保留策略的使用条件和要求最为苛刻,改变策略适用对象最为罕见,删除战争隐喻策略应用情境最为普遍。

Metaphor is a widely adopted rhetorical device in political discourse.Metaphors from the source realm of war demonstrate a typical Chinese characteristic.Unlike metaphors in traditional literary works,war-related metaphors serve as conceptual tools in Chinese political discourse,exemplified in Xi Jinping:The Governance of ChinaⅣ,emphasizing such concepts as friend versus foe,offense versus defense,gains versus losses,and military strategies.Under the influence of macro translation strategies that aim to preserve the conceptual functionality of metaphors,micro translation strategies for war-related metaphors mainly include preserving,altering,and deleting the metaphorical references to war.The preserving strategy could only be applied under strict conditions,the altering strategy is rarely utilized,and the deleting strategy is the most commonly adopted in translation.
