In the early 20th century,the spread of Chinese painting to the West resonated with the self-reflection of Western culture,and Chinese painting thus became a mirror for Europe to reflect on itself.European viewers appropriated and interpreted Chinese painting forms based on Western painting standards.This cross-cultural interpretation,though misinterpreted,inspired European painters to innovate.In the process of cultural creation,misinterpretation and assimilation became a driving force for European innovation,and these innovative works reacted to the original cultural subjects in the process of dissemination.With the deepening of Sinological studies,European viewers began to understand Chinese painting from the internal perspective of Chinese culture,a shift that influenced the development of modern Western art theory.In the complex cycle of cultural and artistic exchanges,maintaining an open mind and realizing mutual cultural understanding are crucial to the effective promotion of cultural exchanges and development of creativity.Open-mindedness and mutual aesthetic understanding in cross-cultural communication are the core factors in promoting cultural exchange and innovation.Despite the existence of“misunderstanding”,this phenomenon has played a positive role in cross-cultural communication,promoting the spread and acceptance of Chinese painting in the West.
