This paper examines the extended functions of first-person pronouns in Beijing Mandarin,which have transcended the use of referring to persons and serve as a deixis for the‘here-and-now'situation within the interactional context,with the speaker intending to draw recipient's attention to the ongoing actions or immediate objects in the scene.This usage is observed in the context of operational register,particularly in the live demonstrational dialogue.Such a phenomenon has a profound connection with the medium type and the nature of interactional actions.This case study also underscores the influence of site specificity of interaction on linguistic expressions,illustrating how grammar is shaped by the dynamics of interaction.
