方志彤的庞德“析字法”研究及其意义

Achilles Fang’s Study on Ezra Pound’s“Etymosinology”and Its Significance

哈佛大学华人学者方志彤在其博士论文《庞德〈诗章〉研究》的《四书》部分对庞德“析字法”问题进行了细致研究。方志彤的“析字法”研究之方法与成果具有重要的借鉴价值,其思想及汉学史意义尚未受到学界重视。方志彤以“析字法”概念指代庞德的“表意文字法”,提取了《比萨诗章》中的“析字法”现象,明确引典出处并纠正误用之处,为解读《比萨诗章》提供了丰富的域外材料;“析字法”与庞德的“诚”概念具有内在一致性,是其思想系统的有机组成部分,可以回应庞德“诗意胡解汉籍”的问题;同时亦为海外汉学研究提供新的启示与意义生长点。

Achilles Fang,a Chinese scholar from Harvard University,made detailed research on Ezra Pound’s“etymosinology”in his doctoral dissertation,Materials for the Study of Pound’s Cantos,especially in the part about The Four Books.The research methods and achievements of his study have important academic value,but his ideas and their significance for the history of Sinology have not been taken seriously by academia.Achilles Fang replaced Pound’s“ideogrammic method”with the concept he named“etymosinology”,and extracted the phenomenon of“etymosinology”from The Pisan Cantos,clarifying the sources of the citations and correcting the misuses,thus providing abundant material for the interpretation of The Pisan Cantos.“Etymosinology”has internal consistency with Pound’s concept of“honesty”;it is also an organic part of Pound’s ideological system,which can respond to the criticism against Pound’s“interpreting Chinese books casually for poetic quality”.At the same time,it also provides new enlightenment and significance for overseas research in Sinology.
