The use and study of metaphors have remained an ongoing subject of interest,leading to the development of “Metaphorology” as a prominent field.According to traditional understanding,the basic condition for constructing metaphorical expressions is the similarity between the tenor and the vehicle.Therefore,how the concept of “similarity” should be understood in metaphor studies is an unavoidable question.This article revolves around the concept of “similarity” and explores three key issues:Is “similarity” a basic condition for metaphorical expressions? Can “similarity” be artificially created? Is there such a thing as a “similarity-creating metaphor”?
