During the Han and Tang dynasties,Jiaozhou交州was a major town for the central dynasty to develop, plan and manage the southern border and the sea,and it was closely related to the prosperity and decline of the“Maritime Silk Road”.The political and military situation in the Jiaozhou area from the Six Dynasties to the early Tang Dynasty was severe and complicated. The newly-release“Li Shishou’s Tombstone Inscription”李世寿墓志records the background and experience of Li Shishou,a member of the royal family of the early Tang Dynasty, who became the governor of Jiaozhou, reflecting the great importance the rulers of Tang Dynasty attached to the strategic position of Jiaozhou. In the early Tang Dynasty, the central government successively appointed at least six members of the royal family as governors of Jiaozhou, and at the same time strengthened the supervision and investigation of the officials in Jiaozhou by sending more censors and personnel evaluation commissioners, etc. The result was that the official rule of Jiaozhou, which had long plagued the central government, had been greatly improved, and it also created the conditions for the effective governance of Jiaozhou and the high prosperity and development of the“Maritime Silk Road”in Tang Dynasty.
