Literary writings about life courses are frequently rooted in specific geographical conditions. Places in life writings are thus enriched with life experiences and emotional codes. This essay analyzes the letters of homesteader Elinore Pruitt Stewart and the travelogues of English investor merchant Lady Rose Pender in the context of Westward Movement in the United States. The natural landscape and the human landscape of Wyoming that are represented in their life writings reveal the diverse experiences and literary strategies by people of different cultural identities. The study, therefore, encouraged an investigation into the tension between individual life experiences and social development, while also deepening our understanding of the complexity of history and culture within multiple frameworks.
