摘要
本文将不同历史时期《三国演义》英译本的副文本作为一个有机的、历时的整体,通过文本细读,爬梳整理,重点考察译本序跋对《三国演义》在英语世界经典化路径的重塑。研究发现,邓罗(C.H.Brewitt-Taylor)译本“他者”序是经典化跨时空接受与传播的表现;罗慕士(Moss Roberts)译本的序跋在译者的自我重译中不断丰富,在学者型译者身份约束下,译者采用深度翻译策略,再现了英译本经典化过程中译者学术真知的视界,与邓罗译本相比,读者评价机制下,罗慕士译本的译介效果更为显著;为了让译本获得理想的读者,虞苏美译本的跋语和后封评论更具广告效应,加快了《三国演义》在译入语文学系统中的经典化进程。
This article examines the paratext,particularly the preface and postscript in the English versions of San Guo Yan Yi in a diachronic manner to uncover the path to re⁃canonization in the English⁃speaking world.The findings indicate that the preface in Brewitt⁃Taylor’s version serves as a classic expression of acceptance and dissemination across time and space.In contrast,the preface and postscript in Moss Roberts’version are continually enriched through re⁃translation.As a scholar,Moss Roberts employs the method of“Thick Translation”to reproduce his academic knowledge in the re⁃canonization process.According to reader feedback,Roberts’version is considered more significant than that of Taylor.The postscript and commentary on the back cover of Yu Sumei’s version target ideal readers,thus speeding up the canonization process of San Guo Yan Yi within the translated literary system.
