Against the backdrop of rapid development of information technology,the online environment has had a profound impact on the development of applied linguistics.This article systematically analyzes the current development status of applied linguistics in the online environment,elaborating on the changes in information acquisition and dissemination methods,language usage environments,and new fea-tures of cross-cultural communication.By examining the multidisciplinary nature,diverse technological means,and innovative language teaching models of applied linguistics,this paper explores future development trends such as natural language processing technology,cross-cultural communication research,language education innovation,online language and culture research,and interdisciplinary cooperation.Research has shown that the online environment has brought new research paradigms and development opportunities for applied linguistics,promoting innovation in research methods and the improvement of theoretical systems.
