This article explains the shaft grounding device function,constitution and its management. The purpose is to avoid damaging the bearings and crankshaft caused by the bi-metallic galvanic cell between propeller of copper-alloy connected to the shaft in seawater and the steel hull on which protection anodes are usually fitted.
