黄腹角雉,又称角鸡、吐绶鸡。形似家鸡,重约1～1.5公斤。雄鸟上体大都栗色,杂以黄、黑圆斑,下体纯黄色。头顶羽冠前黑后红。头的两侧长“角”,是角雉属共有的特征。它的“角”是一种美丽的翠蓝色的肉质角。脸和喉部的裸露皮肤呈橙红色。喉下隐有肉裾,婉如婴儿吃东西时围在胸前的围巾。而黄腹角雉的肉裾,在发情时因充血而膨胀下垂,平展于胸前,在雌鸟面前充分地显现其红、蓝两色组成的复杂而绚丽的鲜艳花饰,借以求得雌鸟的欢心。
Tragopan cabcti got its name in 1857 when a specimen was collected at Guadun for the first time. Because of its small distribution area and the number in existence, it is listed as an endangered species in the world and is a grade-1 state-protected animal.Yellow-bellied Tragopan lives in the evergreen broad-leaf forests 800 to 1,400 meters above sea level in the Wuyi Mountain Biosphere Reserve. The well-protected ecological environment provide it with rich foods, such as stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds of plants and white ants and insects.
