中国目前正处在社会转型时期,城市化是当今社会发展的趋势。城市化不仅是要发展城市的规模和经济,同样必须重视文化的推动作用。本文主要论述了城市文化建设的功能价值体现、公共图书馆在城市文化建设中的重要作用以及图书馆应该如何发挥作用并在城市化进程中促进自身的发展。

China is now in the process of transfo rmation,and urbanization has becom e the trend of social development,which calls for not onl y strengthening the development of a city'ssize and economy,but em-phasizing the promotive force of cul ture.This paper discusses the functional value of a city's cultural progress and the active role the publ ic libraries can play.It also discusses how the public libraries will develop themselves in the course of u rbanization.
