Can a Case Study Be a Ph.D. Thesis in Sports Sciences?

个案研究指对某种行为或事物单一案例的深入调查 ,其目的是探索行为或事物之间的因果关系。个案研究可能以个体为观察单位 ,也可能以社会机构和社会团体为观察单位。个案研究有助于对个体规律的探讨 ,有助于对事件变化过程的深入探讨 ,还有助于节省研究资金。通过 3个实例介绍了个案研究的基本思路。特别指出 ,竞技运动领域的个案研究及其成果 ,不但对优秀运动员的培养具有指导作用 ,同时 ,还可能对母科学的发展做出特殊贡献。最后讨论了体育科学领域个案研究应注意的问题。

The case study is a thorough investigation of a single case of behaviors or matters. Its purpose is to explore the causality between these behaviors and matters. In the case study either an individual or a social organization, or a social group can be taken as an observation unit. This kind of investigation is conducive to 1) probe into the laws of an individual, 2) thorough discussion of the process of the change of an event and 3) saving of the research fund. The basic thinking of the case study was introduced by three examples. It was pointed out that the case study in the field of competitive sport and its related research findings not only have their directive functions in the cultivation of elite athletes, but also make special contribution to the development of the mother discipline. Finally, the issues worth to pay attention to, when conducting case studies in the field of sports sciences were discussed.
