With a newly developed numerical process, Rock Failure Process Analysis (RFPA 2D ), some numerical simulations of brittle coal and rock failure, including coal or rock containing gas, have been done to demonstrate the possibility to adopt numerical method for the coal strata movement, AE behavior and outburst mechanism of coal or rock containing gas. It is shown that the RFPA method is very promising to be used as tool to study the outburst mechanism of coal or rock containing gas.
