The Song Dynasty has detailed data on population and household numbers , but its household registration system was difficult to understand. The paper has drawn many valuable research results from the histiorians on the study of Song's household registration. It discusses and revises the population totals of the different kingdoms of China at that time and has also described briefly what was the situation in other areas of the world when the society and the economy of Song was growing so prosperously and when the population of China has reached 100 million persons for the first time.
