中国近代女学从出现、产生到发展,从制度确立到大中小学招收女生,大约经历了四五十年的漫长历程。这既是社会发展的必然结果,又受当时政治、经济、文化等因素的影响。其中,社会中上阶层中有识之士的努力起了重要作用。而女学在全社会范围内的开展,以及由此带来的社会观念的变化,反过来才真正成为女子教育不断发展的现实基础与时代契机。

China's female study in modern times has gone through a history of forty to fifty years from its emergence to development,from the establishment of the system to the recruitment of female students.The rise of female study is an inevitable result of the social development,and is also influenced by such factors as politics,economy,and culture,among which men of insight in the upper and middle class play a vital role.The spread of female study in the whole society,together with the change of social concepts,lays a realistic foundation and creates opportunities for the constant development of female education.
