文化参与视阈下的逆向翻译——谈中国著名汉英翻译家的翻译理路

Inverse Translation from the Perspective of Cultural Participation: On the Chinese-to-English Translation Mentality of Some Famous Chinese Translators

为了加快中国文学作品走向世界的进程,越来越多的中国译者投身中国文学作品的翻译工作。这种逆向翻译实践,虽然具有一些难以克服的局限性,但它是中国译者文化自觉和文化自信的体现。中国译者的译文透射出中国译者的文化情怀、哲学思想、思维方式以及诗学传统。他们传递给世界的,不仅仅是译文内容,还有隐藏在译文背后的、中国译者希望传递和分享的文化影响和文学传统。正是由于中国译者的参与,中西不同的文化和文学传统得以展现和对话,这是中国译者逆向翻译的重要意义。

At present,quite a number of Chinese translators are trying to translate Chinese literary works into English so as to accelerate the pace of the Chinese excellent literary works going out. This inverse translation practice has its limitations but it is the manifestation of Chinese translators' cultural awareness and confidence. Chinese translators' emotions,philosophical thoughts,ways of thinking and literary traditions are reflected and displayed through their translations. They impart to the world not only their translations but also their cultural identity and the literary traditions they inherit and hope to share. Thanks to Chinese translators' participation and endeavor,different traditions and cultures embedded in Chinese and western translators' translations are presented and communicate. In this sense,Chinese translators' inverse translation is feasible and plays a significant role in the exchanges between Chinese and western culture.
