"英雄"和"父亲心象"是荣格识别的与男性气质和父亲身份相关的重要原型。在它们的作用下,男性心理往往将父亲身份神化,从而产生父神幻象。在阿瑟·密勒戏剧《推销员之死》中,父神幻象支配威利·洛曼的意识,使他产生超男子气的心理倾向,从而导致其父道理想破灭,并最终推动他做出自杀的抉择。
Jungian analytical psychology identifies 'the hero'and 'the father-imago'as two significant archetypes which tend to produce father-god illusion in the male psyche. In Arthur Miller's Death of A Salesman,father-god illusion dominates Willy Loman's consciousness,engenders his hypermasculinity,causes the bankruptcy of his fatherhood investments,and ultimately conduces to his decision to commit suicide.
