Five months after the Financial Times(FT) was purchased by Japan's Nikkei Shimbun, the newspaper's coverage on China has increased, but the tendency of its reporting has shown no obvious change. Its coverage on Japan remains relatively steady, and its attitude towards Japanese topics have shown signs of changing from being critical to being mild and neutral. It has been active in reporting on Abenomics. This research finds it doubtful whether Nikkei Shimbun can keep its promise regarding FT's editorial independence. It is increasingly likely that the FT will become a public relations tool of Japanese enterprises and a publicity tool of the Japanese government. Further observation is necessary to identify any changes in the editorial policy of FT's Chinese-language website targeting readers on the Chinese mainland. Clashes in media culture and the worsening of Japan's environment for public opinion may also exert uncertainties for FT's editorial policies.
