The Security Landscape on the Korean Peninsula under New Circumstances and China's Response Strategy

2018年以来,随着朝韩关系渐进改善以及朝鲜相继同中、韩、美三国举行首脑会谈,朝鲜半岛局势再次进入转圜发展的新阶段。很显然,在关于朝核问题的新一轮谈判过程中,中国依然面临一些潜在的挑战,为此,必须及时调整有关政策主动出击,以战略制衡为基调,防范利益攸关方借助双边或者多边会谈侵害中国利益。2018年2月,以参加平昌冬奥会为契机,韩朝关系得到大幅改善。

Since the beginning of 2018, as inter-Korean relations improved, the DPRK has held summits with China and ROK, and will soon do so with the United States. The situation on the Korean Peninsula has entered a new phase. Apparently, in a new round of negotiations about DPRK's nuclear program, China still faces potential challenges. Therefore, we must timely adjust our policies and, based on strategic balancing, guard against infringement upon China's legitimate interests, while engaging in bilateral or multilateral talks.
