They boast a wide range of patterns and forms, and exquisite and complicated craftsmanship. Among varieties of decorative patterns, the ice-crack pattern has been widely used and frequently-seen, with long-lasting colors. Of the interior and exterior finish work in the buildings, the icecrack pattern can be found in different forms, at different locations and with varied materials, which is extremely rare. It showcases the unique aesthetical concept of the ruling class and superb handicraft of artisans, and also indicates that both the imperial family members and common people favored and were fond of natural, simple and pristine patterns.
