The development and activities in the early years of the Palace Museum can be attributed to constant efforts of in-house colleges and generous support from intellectuals that have played an indispensible part. Starting with correspondences and memoirs of Ye Gongchuo from outside the Palace Museum, this paper reviews his interaction with the museum staff, for example, his early contact before and after the establishment of the museum and his relationship with two previous directors, namely, Yi Peiji and Ma Heng, and his part in and records on preparing for the London exhibition of the Chinese art, mainly the artifacts in the collection of the Place Museum, exploring the favorable interaction between museums and social elites during the Republic of China period.
