Formative assessment is one of the important components in the quality assurance system of open and dis-tance education,thus a thorough and scientific understanding of formative assessment is imperative.This paper con ducts a comprehensive analysis of continued assessments so as to put forward suggestions for a better as-sessment administrative system and more desirable evaluation criteria.With the implementation of such a sys-tem,quality formative assessment can become feasible.
