The Reproduction of Classic Chinese Books in Korea over the Dynasties

韩国地理上与中国的东面隔海相望,北面陆地相邻,自古接受中国的汉文化,成为东亚"汉字文化圈"的重要组成国。因此,在古代我们的祖先利用汉字创造民族文化的时候,就参考了很多中国的文献。从三国(高句丽、新罗、百济)统一新罗时代开始,就大量引进了唐朝的书籍。高丽时代,随着宋元思想、文化的传入,大量的中国书籍也一并传入。尤其是随着儒家和佛教思想的广泛流传,儒家经典和佛经也大量传入过来。根据《高丽史》的记载,中国因战乱销毁的典籍,高丽当时却完好地保存着,因此宋朝向高丽要求这些中国书籍的复本,高丽予以提供。考察当时主要引进了哪些书籍,各个时代的传播情况如何,将有助于理解我们文化的历史脉络和未来发展。这种关于文献传播的研究,不仅有助于了解古代中国文化的海外传播和发展情况,还对中国国内文献的整理和研究具有重要意义。

Geographically, Korea for the most part lies across the sea from the east of China and borders on Chinese territory in the north. Since ancient times, Korea has been receiving the influence of the Chinese Han culture and thus became an important constituent of the 'Chinese Character Zone' in East Asia. In ancient times our Korean ancestors referred to many Chinese books when developing our national Korean culture with Chinese characters. Starting from the Three-Kingdom Dynasty and the Unified Silla Dynasty, we have imported a good many Chinese books of the Tang Dynasty. In the Goryeo Dynasty, many Chinese books came in with the introduction of the thoughts and culture of the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Especially with the wide spread of Confucian and Buddhist thought, the Confucius classics and Buddhist sutras poured into Korea. According to History of Goryeo Dynasty, the books damaged and destroyed amid wars and conflicts in China turned out to bekept intact in the Goryeo Dynasty, so the Song Dynasty requested the Goryeo Dynasty to offer copies of those books and the latter obliged. An investigation into what books were introduced during that time and how they were spread over the dynasties will help us to gain a better idea about how Chinese culture spread and developed overseas, and holds great significance in combing through and researching into the relevant Chinese literature.
