杜百胜与加拿大多伦多大学的汉学研究

Research on the History of Sinological Studies in Canada: W. A. C. H. Dobson and the History of Chinese Studies at the University of Toronto

本文以多伦多大学(University of Toronto)东亚系20世纪20年代至60年代的学术发展史为研究对象,以汉学家杜百胜(William Arthur Charles Harvey Dobson, 1913—1982)为研究中心,通过发掘和爬梳第一手史料,以历史学和比较文学理论为基础,研究加拿大多伦多大学东亚系中国研究的起承转合。笔者从加拿大传教士汉学入手,以专业汉学的启蒙与发展为重点,做基础性研究,以期略窥加拿大汉学发展史。

Taking the history of the Department of East Asian Studies of the University of Toronto in terms of academic development from the 1920 s to the 1960 s as the research object and the sinologist William Arthur Charles Harvey Dobson as the focus of research,this article combs and investigates the primary historical materials,and on the basis of comparative literary theory,gives a broad view of the history of Chinese studies at the University of Toronto.Starting from the study of Canadian missionary sinology,the authors do basic historical research,focusing on the initiation and development of professional Canadian sinology,in order to have a glimpse of the history of sinology in Canada.
