In November 1980,Broadway's Dramatists Association invited me to attend a conference for dramatists and musicians.That was 33years ago,and I had the privilege of watching the Broadway hit Annie and meeting its composer Charles Strouse.Annie,which premiered on April 21,1977 on Broadway,was the most successful show of that season.It won seven Tony Awards in addition to other accolades.Actually,the title character is quite similar to San Mao,a figure so dear to Chinese children.Today,China has its own original musical based on the adventures of San Mao.
