This study defines the fundamental concepts of community and clarifies the basic elements of a community. It also introduces the past and present situation of rural community studies in America. Some theoretical issues of rural community studies have been discussed and various barriers of the development of rural community have also been pointed out. The implication of rural community studies has been addressed.
