该文认为明代名臣刘天和总理河道 ,面临的难题之一是堤岸屡建屡圮。他总结了历代植柳固堤丰富的、生动的经验 ,创始了“植柳六法”。此后明清治河名臣不断继承和发展 ,至今仍有实践意义。“植柳六法”是生物抗洪、水土保持、改善生态环境、营造优美景观的途径 。

The paper holds that preventing riverbanks from collapsing after they had been rebuilt was one of the greatest difficulties faced by Liu Tianhe, a famous official of Ming Dynasty, taking charge of rivers and riverbanks. Having summarized the rich and lively experiences in strengthening riverbanks by planting willows on and along the riverbanks in history, he put forward “The Six Ways of Planting Willows', which was followed and developed by great officials responsible for rivers and riverbanks in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and still has practical significance even today. The “Six Ways' is actually a project to control flood using biological method, to conserve water and soil, to improve environment, and a way to create beautiful landscape and to provide willow twigs.
