After the ban on maritime trade was lifted in the middle and late Ming Dynasty, hardwood like rosewood from Southeast Asia was imported into China and became major material for Ming-style furniture. Natural hardwood material without any decoration became the foundation of the aesthetic style of Ming-style furniture. It also objectively promoted the mortise and tenon structure to develop into a more scientifi c and reasonable direction. As a result, Ming furniture style, which is applying no painted decoration to reveal the natural wood texture was formed and had an important infl uence on the furniture in Qing Dynasty.
