Status and Prospect of Directly Modulated Semiconductor Lasers

摘要 21世纪是光的时代,光电子器件及技术快速发展,在我们身边无处不在。对比微电子器件在信息处理上的应用,我们不由得要思考为何要用光电子器件,将光电子器件用在何处,以及如何用光电子器件这几个问题。高速半导体激光器作为光通信系统中具有代表性的器件之一,在光通信和微波光子技术等领域中发挥着越来越重要的作用。系统介绍了高速直接调制激光器的基本概念,高速激光器的应用领域与分类,并讨论高速激光器面临的技术挑战与发展趋势。 The 21st century is the age of light.Optoelectronic devices and technology are developing rapidly and are everywhere around us.Compared with the application of microelectronic devices in information processing,we must think about why optoelectronic devices should be used,and where and how to use optoelectronic devices.Directly modulated semiconductor lasers have been widely used in optical communications and microwave photonic systems.This talk will introduce the concept of directly modulated semiconductor lasers and their applications in optical communications including digital and analog transmission,WDM system,and coherent fiber or free space communications.The development and prospects will also be discussed.
