略论荆门战役两军成败

On the Success and Failure of both Armies in Jingmen Campaign

1949年2月,人民解放军江汉军区及其所属地方武装,对驻守荆门地区的国民党第79军发起攻击,共歼敌8900余人,俘虏军长方靖,解放了荆门、当阳两座县城。是役迫使敌军主力撤逃江南及鄂西山地,为人民解放军在荆江段发起渡江战役及直叩四川门户扫清了障碍,是一个以少胜多的成功战例。

In February 1949, Jianghan military region of the PLA and the local armed forces launched an attack against the 79th army of KMT, garrisoned Jingmen, annihilated 8,900 enemies in all, captured the army commanderFang Jing and liberated the two county townsJingmen and Dangyang. This campaign forced the main force of the enemy military to be withdrawn to the south of the Yangtze River and the mountain areas in west Hubei, and cleared away the obstacle for the PLA's Crossing Yangtze Campaign in Jingjiang section of Yangtze and entering Sichuan and it is a typical example of the weak defeating the strong.
