The comparison of traditional literature in Europe and USA with modernist and post-modernist literature can reveal better the process and features of the change of literature in the Occident. Modernism opposes tradition with traditional categories whereas postmodernism has to turn back to tradition after deconstructed all. The development from humanism to anti-humanism and from social religion to the personalized religious belief reveals the internal progress of literature in the Occident.
