The purpose of this article is to provide an illustration and analysis of how schools are implementing the new performance management system which has come into effect recently in the UK. Firstly, it gives a short overview of the framework of the system by focusing on the roles, responsibilities, who is included, and outcomes of the performance review. Then it describes the performance management cycle which involves three stages: planning, monitoring and review. Thirdly, it shows the specific criteria for the assessment of the effectiveness of teaching and learning and a three stage lesson observation which includes collecting evidence, drawing conclusions, and giving feedback. And finally, it summarizes the main characteristics of the system.
