摘要
英语词汇是由多种语言成分所组成。研究其词源可以发现许多来自西方和东方语言的外来词语 ,包括这些语言借词的许多例证 ,但出自汉语的借词例子却不多。本文试图对进入英语的汉语借词进行探讨 ,举例分析英语中源自中国的事物取名的几种方法 ,着重讨论音借词。
The English vocabulary is an extremely heterogeneous one, made up of elements from many languages. Studying the origins of English words you will find lists of borrowings from Western languages and Eastern languages. They tend to include quite a number of examples from these languages. But when it comes to Chinese, the inclusions seem to be few. In this paper an attempt is made to study the subject of lexical borrowing from Chinese into English and an analysis is made with illustrations of the methods of naming things Chinese in English with emphasis on the method of phonetic loans.
