英语的oxymoron和paradox都属于矛盾修辞的范畴,两者与汉语的反衬辞格颇为相似。英语语言中矛盾修辞的结构形式主要有浓缩型和舒展型两种。通过对比、讽刺、反差刻画人物,抒发感情发其语用功能。表面上看矛盾修辞手段所表现的似乎是矛盾,互相排斥,互相对立的概念,而实际却蕴分着令人深省的深刻的哲理。
